I am aware the point of getting only one starter per game is to encourage players to trade with other players, but isn't that the reason there is version exclusive pokemon.
Also considering the fact that these pokemon are not legendaries, why is it you can only get one per game?
Wouldn't it make more sense if these pokemon were just rare but still obtainable. After all, they are included in the pokedexes of their respective regions, and we do see other trainers with them. So we know they're not impossible to get.
I think it would make sense if the only places you could get the other starters were the Pokemon preserves in the games. After all, if they were technically endangered, it would make sense they would be rare.
For example, after you pick one starter, the 2nd starter won't appear in the Pokemon preserves until after you beat all the contest ranks. Likewise the last remaining starter won't appear until after you have beaten the elite 4.
What is everyone's thoughts about this? Do you think Starter Pokemon should be available to catch in game? What are your thoughts concerning the starters being used as a reward system for accomplishing certain feats in game?

no... because that would defeat the purpose of the starter Pokemon. It is supposed to be a powerful bugger when trained right, more powerful than a legendary. But still, I think there should be contests to get another starter instead of just catching them.

I don't see why the starter Pokemon should be given special treatment. They're a form of version exclusives, so while you're trading for other exclusives, just get the starters then as well.
It is odd however, how they are listed as the first lot of Pokemon in any region's Regional Dex, yet they're never found in the wild. My only explanation is that the region's Professor has a load of them, and he created the Pokédex so he's allowed to arrange it however he wants. But that he has a monopoly on the starters seems rather odd to me.

the pokedex is made to be a jerk and the professors just are too lazy to fill the dex themselves, so they get free child labor

True, but I'm sure they're too tired and old to do the job when they've been working on a Pokedex for years...

Birch isn't old, neither is Elm. I forgot about those two, that's what happens when I haven't been playing Emerald and/or Silver for a long time lol

Brendon was in the anime series? If so, I must be paying no attention to Pokemon, considering I watched all the Hoenn episodes, up til DP series when I quit once in for all, maybe. [except the movies, they're always great to watch!]
